Trusting In The Promises of God

 The Bible says, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he (God) exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him” (Heb. 11:6 NIV).

The Apostle Peter said, “Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:20-21 NIV).

The Holy Spirit speaking through the Prince of all Prophets Isaiah, moved the latter to prophesy:

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isa. 9:6 NIV).

About nine hundred years after Isaiah made the prophecy, the Lord Jesus Christ was born in a manger. Thus, was fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah.

Isaiah further prophesied:

2He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

3He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted.

5But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

6We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

7He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

8By oppression and judgment he was taken away. And who can speak of his descendants?

For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was stricken.

9He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.

10Yet it was the LORD’S will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.

11After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.

12Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. (Isa. 53:2-12 NIV)

On the other hand, the prophet Zechariah prophesied about the crucifixion of this child who is Jesus Christ:

“And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a first born son” (Zech. 12:10 NIV).

This prophecy again refers to the Lord Jesus Christ and to his death by crucifixion.

These prophecies are but some of the more than 300 written in the Bible. Many of these have been fulfilled already. Some have yet to happen and be fulfilled in God’s timetable. The book of Revelation is replete with future promises and events yet to happen. These will be a proper subject to discuss later, not now.

In the article published in the October 18, 2014 (Saturday), issue of our one and only bulletin all over the world, I discussed that Jesus Christ is God himself in the flesh. The Bible says, “The WORD became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14 NIV).

Then, the Lord Jesus Christ himself said and promised:

“1Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms (mansions KJV); if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4You know the way to the place where I am going." (John 14:1-4)

If Jesus (God) promises something, 100% it shall come to pass.

If we are a child or disciple of Jesus Christ (God in the flesh) we know the place He referred to in verse 4 - - HEAVEN the abode or residence of God where every child of God will enjoy and spend eternity. If we don’t, we are not children or disciples of Jesus Christ (God in the flesh).

Jesus’ most important promise to the believer or Christian is: “I WILL COME BACK AND TAKE YOU TO BE WITH ME THAT YOU ALSO MAY BE WHERE I AM” (vs. 3). Are we still afraid to die? Not, if we are a child of God, because we can trust fully 100% the promises of God, and the aforequoted promise is the most important. We, with our Father on earth and more so with our Father in heaven, feel safe and secure because we can trust fully the promises of our God, through our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ.
